Hot Weather Continues For The First Day Of Summer!

Has this spring been hot enough for you? Enough 90+ or 100+ days yet? Well, guess what? Today is the first day of summer and the heat rolls on, if anything, building again today! Chicagoland, most of southern Wisconsin, southern Michigan, western Ohio, the Ohio Valley and into Missouri, will be in the upper 90s to the low 100s. At or above 100 will also be found from southern Kansas, into Oklahoma and Texas. Another area of at or above 100 degree temperatures will be found across parts of Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas. 90 or better is likely as far north as western Pennsylvania and western New York. This heat today will only build tomorrow, with the Ohio, Tennessee and Mississippi Valleys along with the Southeast adding to those temps by a few degrees tomorrow, putting it into record or near all time record territory. As reported yesterday, the heart of the heat shifts back west of the Mississippi River on Thursday and especially Friday.

HEATWAVE ROUND 2: Record To Near All-Time Record Heat Possible Across The South This Week

The heat is already building across the southern Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley.

One More Severe Weather Day Before A Cooler Father’s Day Weekend

It’s still really hot and humid across most of the Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast US today. Temperatures will range from the 90s to near 100 degrees for one more day.

Severe Storms And Searing Heat Roll On!

Greenville hit 100 F yesterday for the first time in a decade. If the extended models are right, a ton of records could go down in the next week or so.

Welcome To The RING OF FIRE

Hi there! I’m your biggest heatwave in years! Nice to meet you! Let me introduce you to my friend the RING OF FIRE *cue dreadful music and loud thunder sounds*

Heat Peaks Today And Tomorrow Across The Southeast And Ohio Valley, Damaging Storms Around The “Ring Of Fire”

If your flights were screwed up last night and/or are still screwed up today, maybe the 84 MPH winds that clocked O’Hare Airport in Chicago had something to do with it…

ENHANCED RISK Of Damaging Winds From Storms In The Great Lakes This Afternoon And Tonight

I was going to put today as DAY 1 of the heatwave. But Greenville got to 92 F yesterday. A lot of the nation got into the 90s and 100s. So I’m calling yesterday as Day 1. Today is Day 2. This is the peak of the heat in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma under the strengthening heat dome overhead. Temperatures well into the 100s under the dome in these states. In Kansas, it would not surprise me if someone hits 110 F this afternoon. It’s jacket weather in the Pacific NW and comfortably mild in the Northeast. So that means there is a big transition area, a BATTLE ZONE if you will. That battle zone is: The Great Lakes. We’ve already had massive thunderstorms in the northern Mississippi Valley this morning and they are heading fast for the Great Lakes this afternoon and tonight. This area was a SLIGHT RISK at 7 AM. As of this 1030 AM writing, it’s now an ENHANCED RISK. Damaging straight line winds, by far, is the biggest risk.

High Temperatures Next Week In The 90s And 100s For Much Of The Nation

It has been well advertised for several days now, and we are just a few days away from the start of the biggest heatwave in years for much of the nation. This heatwave will last at least through Father’s Day Weekend, and probably through much of next week as well. In terms of staying power, it has been several years, probably since 2012 that a heat wave this long and/or intense has descended upon much of the nation.

The Big Heatwave Is Coming! Are you Ready?

Starting Monday, east of the Rockies, the eastern 2/3 of the nation, especially SOUTH of Interstate 80, will be in for a long stretch of hot temperatures.

OPINION: It All Started With Clinton, And If History Repeats Itself, We Are Doomed In November

I've seen this movie before, and I don't like it. I don't want to see it again. I know you don't want to see it again either. Especially now.

Threat For Severe Storms Yet Again Across The Great Plains Today. Big Heatwave Brewing For Next Week!

The weather has been a broken record lately but the weather will be changing its tune heading into next week from the same old song to HEATWAVE. First lets get today out of the way: SLIGHT RISK of severe thunderstorms across the Great Plains yet again today. As has been the case the last several days, the tornado threat is low. The threat for high winds and hail with the high instability across the Plains is the main threat with any thunderstorms that do pop up. These storms will move tonight into tomorrow from the Great Plains into the Mississippi Valley, then work their way through the Southeast tomorrow. This activity should reach the Virginias and the Mid Atlantic sometime on Friday, weakening as it moves to the east. The break in the heat and particularly the humidity will be noticeable heading into this weekend. The Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Southeast and most of the east coast will enjoy a nice pleasant weekend with low humidity, especially Saturday, and temps for this weekend at to just a little below normal for June. Below normal temps? After this weekend unless you are in the Pacific Northwest I have one word for you: FUGEDABOUDIT!

Severe Weather Threat For Ohio, Mississippi, And Tennessee Valleys Wendesday

As a storm system heads to the east, there will be more than enough instability to kick off waves of thunderstorms from the western Great Lakes, through the Ohio, Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys this afternoon and tonight. Again, like the last several days, this is not a tornado threat. The tornado threat is not zero, but it is very low. Most of the severe reports we expect will be wind damage and hail. Since these storms have lots of instability to work with, and grow very high into the atmosphere, hail and downburst winds will be the biggest threats. Thankfully these severe items are more localized and not everyone sees them. But if you get hit, you get hit good. Heads up in this part of the nation and have multiple ways to get weather warnings from the NWS this afternoon and this evening.
