A Beautiful Late June Day For Most Of The East

Here in the Northeast, it's a cool late June morning. With the exception of a few clouds zipping through northern NY and northern Vermont, the rest of the Northeast, Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley looks like a 10/10 today. Here in the Northeast it's a cool late June morning. With the exception of a few clouds zipping through northern NY and northern Vermont, the rest of the Northeast, Great Lakes and Ohio Valley looks like a 10/10 today. Tons of bright sunshine. Temps in the 70s, low humidity and about 5-10 degrees of the normals for this time of year. In late June, unless you want to "fry" or "bake" at the beach, most folks probably won't mind. It looks to stya this way the next few days. End of this week the heat and some humidity will return.

Heatwave Still Rolls On Down South For Another Few Days

Mid 90s today. The 100+ is across northern Florida, southern Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas today.

Near Record Heat Today, But It’s Not As Bad As It Could Have Been…

Make no mistake about it. Even taking 4-8 degrees off of the models, it’s still going to be searing hot today across the Carolinas and Tennessee. Two things happened: 1) The big cooldown in the Northeast was WAY MORE INTENSE than predicted. This kept the northerly flow going much longer than predicted. It was initially supposed to only be 1-2 days, with Sunday being the last day. Yesterday, Tuesday, we still had influence here in South Carolina as it dropped into the high 50s for overnight lows. For South Carolina, that’s chilly for late June. The lower dew points last a lot longer also helped to cool the atmosphere just enough. 2) The actual strength of the ridge was a lot stronger last week than this week. They were about equal several days ago, but the upper level heat dome was just not as strong. If the heat dome is not as strong up above, it won’t be as hot down below near the surface. When the trend started this weekend I should have latched onto it, but Monday morning I was still holding on. Now, it’s not going to happen. Bad on me.#

Hot Weather Continues For The First Day Of Summer!

Has this spring been hot enough for you? Enough 90+ or 100+ days yet? Well, guess what? Today is the first day of summer and the heat rolls on, if anything, building again today! Chicagoland, most of southern Wisconsin, southern Michigan, western Ohio, the Ohio Valley and into Missouri, will be in the upper 90s to the low 100s. At or above 100 will also be found from southern Kansas, into Oklahoma and Texas. Another area of at or above 100 degree temperatures will be found across parts of Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas. 90 or better is likely as far north as western Pennsylvania and western New York. This heat today will only build tomorrow, with the Ohio, Tennessee and Mississippi Valleys along with the Southeast adding to those temps by a few degrees tomorrow, putting it into record or near all time record territory. As reported yesterday, the heart of the heat shifts back west of the Mississippi River on Thursday and especially Friday.

HEATWAVE ROUND 2: Record To Near All-Time Record Heat Possible Across The South This Week

The heat is already building across the southern Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley.

One More Severe Weather Day Before A Cooler Father’s Day Weekend

It’s still really hot and humid across most of the Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast US today. Temperatures will range from the 90s to near 100 degrees for one more day.

Severe Storms And Searing Heat Roll On!

Greenville hit 100 F yesterday for the first time in a decade. If the extended models are right, a ton of records could go down in the next week or so.

Welcome To The RING OF FIRE

Hi there! I’m your biggest heatwave in years! Nice to meet you! Let me introduce you to my friend the RING OF FIRE *cue dreadful music and loud thunder sounds*

Heat Peaks Today And Tomorrow Across The Southeast And Ohio Valley, Damaging Storms Around The “Ring Of Fire”

If your flights were screwed up last night and/or are still screwed up today, maybe the 84 MPH winds that clocked O’Hare Airport in Chicago had something to do with it…

ENHANCED RISK Of Damaging Winds From Storms In The Great Lakes This Afternoon And Tonight

I was going to put today as DAY 1 of the heatwave. But Greenville got to 92 F yesterday. A lot of the nation got into the 90s and 100s. So I’m calling yesterday as Day 1. Today is Day 2. This is the peak of the heat in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma under the strengthening heat dome overhead. Temperatures well into the 100s under the dome in these states. In Kansas, it would not surprise me if someone hits 110 F this afternoon. It’s jacket weather in the Pacific NW and comfortably mild in the Northeast. So that means there is a big transition area, a BATTLE ZONE if you will. That battle zone is: The Great Lakes. We’ve already had massive thunderstorms in the northern Mississippi Valley this morning and they are heading fast for the Great Lakes this afternoon and tonight. This area was a SLIGHT RISK at 7 AM. As of this 1030 AM writing, it’s now an ENHANCED RISK. Damaging straight line winds, by far, is the biggest risk.

High Temperatures Next Week In The 90s And 100s For Much Of The Nation

It has been well advertised for several days now, and we are just a few days away from the start of the biggest heatwave in years for much of the nation. This heatwave will last at least through Father’s Day Weekend, and probably through much of next week as well. In terms of staying power, it has been several years, probably since 2012 that a heat wave this long and/or intense has descended upon much of the nation.

The Big Heatwave Is Coming! Are you Ready?

Starting Monday, east of the Rockies, the eastern 2/3 of the nation, especially SOUTH of Interstate 80, will be in for a long stretch of hot temperatures.
