Google Play Bans Truth Social From Its Platform Over ‘Content Moderation’ Concerns

Published on

Here we go again folks. Same story, different conservative app. When Donald Trump announced the launch of Truth Social, I knew it was just a matter of time before the big tech oligarchs banned the freedom of speech app from their platforms.

Truth Social, created by Trump Media and Technology Group, remains unavailable on the Google Play store.

According to a report from Axios, Google said the app lacks effective systems for moderating user-generated content, which violates the store’s terms of service.

“On Aug. 19, we notified Truth Social of several violations of standard policies in their current app submission and reiterated that having effective systems for moderating user-generated content is a condition of our terms of service for any app to go live on Google Play,” the tech company, which is owned by Alphabet, told Axios in a statement.

In otherwords, “we hate Donald Trump, and now that his megaphone is getting too big again, we’re going to silence him.”

The restriction means that Android users, who make up 44% of smartphone users in the U.S., can’t download the app. Google will not let the app go live until the content issues are addressed. Truth Social acknowledged Google’s concerns and said it would work on addressing these issues, according to Axios.

Trump Media and Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes told a different story. The former lawmaker, who was one of former President Donald Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress, claimed the decision is up to Google, and not dependent on Truth Social’s policies.

“When are we going to be available on Android? Well, look, that’s up to the Google Play store. We’re waiting on them to approve us, I don’t know what’s taking so long,” Nunes said on the “Just the News Not Noise” podcast. “It sure would be nice if they would approve us.”

Trump Media and Technology Group made the app available for pre-order on Android in early August. It is available on Apple’s App Store. Google’s YouTube has suspended Trump’s channel.

Parlor, another rising conservative app, was given the same “silent treatment” once the left-wing social media giants decided that they wanted nothing to do with conservatives congregating to discuss how they were going to take back Ameria. Parlor was ultimately taken off both the Apple Store, and Google Play, formerly known as Android Market for similar “content moderation” reasons. Ulimtately Jeff Bezos delivered Parlor its final blow by killing the platform off of his Amazon servers. The was the end of Parlor, and it never really saw the light of day again.

Truth Social, following a similar growth path as Parlor, has been booming over recent months, and the former President has been very active once again as political tensions rise.

Since the FBI Mar-a-Lago raid alone, a record number of Republicans now support former President Donald Trump running for president in 2024, and this absolutely terrifies the Democrats who are in Big Tech’s ear.

A Morning Consult/Politico poll of 2,004 registered voters on Wednesday showed that Trump has his highest level of interparty support since he lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden, as nearly three in five Republicans would vote for him again in 2024. His 58 percent support exceeds his 54 percent and 53 percent in July and June, respectively, amid response to the ongoing January 6 hearings.

In order for Trump’s Truth Social to survive the death grip big tech has on his platform, Truth Social would need to be built on its own tech ecosystem from the ground up, including servers, operating systems, and market platforms that the apps are listed on.

Trump would need to own every single component of the infrastructure in order to stand a chance at delivering a true free speech platform. Until that happens, big tech will be calling the shots on who gets to have a voice and who joins Parlor in the depths of tyrannical hell.
