Pelosi Suggests Republicans May Stop Women From ‘Traveling To See A Concert Or A Play’

Published on

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi put on quite the performance Friday when she dramatically attacked her Republican colleagues, suggesting GOP lawmakers may soon ban women from traveling to buy a book or to see a concert or play.

“We offer hope to the American people who cherish our freedoms… What do Republicans have in store next? You can’t travel to buy a book? You can’t travel to see a concert or a play?” asked Pelosi.

As the debate over abortion access plays out across the country, Senate Republicans appear divided over the issue of protecting travel across state lines to seek reproductive care – and whether individuals or health care providers should be held criminally liable if they do so.

According to NY1.com, a heated back-and-forth between Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., and Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., highlighted ongoing tensions in Congress over the issue

NY1 went on to report that Lankford on Thursday blocked unanimous consent on legislation introduced by Cortez Masto to protect the rights of Americans traveling between states to seek abortion care

Other Republicans took a different approach, with at least two Senators saying limiting travel would unconstitutionally restrict Americans’ freedoms.
