RAND PAUL TO NIH: ‘Preserve All Fauci Communications, ‘Specifically Covid-19′ Docs’

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has written an official letter to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) demanding that the organization retain all of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s communications, particularly those regarding Covid-19.

The reason for the request, according to Paul, is to allow Congress to

“In light of this announcement, I formally request you ensure the preservation of all documents and communications within Dr. Fauci’s possession related to his tenure at the National Institutes of Health (NIH),” Paul wrote shortly after Fauci’s retirement announcement.

“This information is critical to ensure that Congress has access to information necessary to conduct proper oversight regarding events that took place during Dr. Fauci’s tenure with the agency. Specifically, I request you preserve all records, e-mail, electronic documents, and data created by or shared with Dr. Fauci during his tenure at NIH that relate to COVID-19 including, but not limited to, NIAID-funded coronavirus research. This preservation request also includes all records of official business conducted on non official accounts,” he added.

Fauci, who announced his resignation from positions pertaining to the NIH on Monday, will not be excused from answering to a full investigation, according to Paul who posted on Twitter.

“Fauci’s resignation will not prevent a full-throated investigation into the origins of the pandemic. He will be asked to testify under oath regarding any discussions he participated in concerning the lab leak.”

Rand Paul isn’t the only one planning on investigating Fauci if Republicans take back the House in November. Republicans who could potentially be committee chairs also signaled they were open to expanding future investigations on the Covid doctor.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, released a press statement on Monday vowing to continue investigating Fauci, stating: “Retirement can’t shield Dr. Fauci from congressional oversight.”

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), the ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said in a Monday press release, “We need answers to many questions around the government’s failed COVID-19 pandemic response, how this pandemic started, and his [Fauci’s] role in supporting taxpayer-funded risky research without proper oversight in China.”
