In a surprise move on the House floor during the seventh round of votes for Speaker Of The House, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) voted for former President Donald Trump.
WATCH:
Donald Trump was not the nominee, and the strategy behind why Gaetz decided to vote for Trump is still unknown. It is unclear whether Gaetz will nominate the former President in the 8th Round of votes.
The final vote tally for the seventh round was McCarthy (R) 201, Jeffries (D) 212, Donalds (R) 19, and Other 1 (Former President Donald Trump). Bryon Donalds (R-FL) was the nominated member in round 7. Kevin McCarthy did not have the votes to secure the Speakership position, and round 8 is now expected. Congress has been voting for 3 days now with no luck on selecting a Speaker.
