WHITE HOUSE FOUL! Deletes Social Security Tweet After Twitter Flagged It For Misinformation

Published on

Aaahhh, the sweet smell of liberty! Looks like Elon Musk is already hard at work fact-checking the Dems after decades of being allowed to run rogue on Twitter. And it didn’t take long before the White House itself got flagged for a fib of its own.

According to a Fox News report, the White House removed a flagged tweet on Twitter after making a claim about Social Security that wasn’t entirely true; Twitter provided more context, but the tweet was ultimately taken down.

“Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership,” the White House tweeted Tuesday.

“The White House tweet was accompanied by a note from Twitter that said many readers were adding ‘context’ to the WH message that said the rise in Social Security payments was ‘due to the annual cost of living adjustment, which is based on the inflation rate,’” Fox reports.

Fox News said that Twitter adds “context” notes when they are rated highly enough by Twitter users, a point that Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, stressed Wednesday morning.

“The community notes feature is awesome. Our goal is to make Twitter the most accurate source of information on Earth, without regard to political affiliation,” Musk said.

But it’s not the first time the White House spread misinformation. Just last week, President Biden’s tweet about inflation was flagged —Twitter added context there, as well.

“Let me give you the facts,” Biden tweeted. “In 2020, 55 corporations made $40 billion. And they paid zero in federal taxes. My Inflation Reduction Act puts an end to this.”

“The Inflation Reduction Act imposed a minimum tax on corporations with average pre-tax earnings greater than $1 billion,” the addition explained, adding links to source information from Reuters and a government website. “Out of the 55 corporations that the tweet references, only 14 had earnings greater than $1 billion and would be eligible under Biden’s new law,” the Twitter context added.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) shared the story on Twitter, adding “The White House just found out it can’t tweet out Joe Biden’s false statements and have the company’s old regime cover it up.”
