Upper East Side Homicide, Woman Shot Dead In NYC While Taking Baby For An Evening Stroll

Published on

While taking a baby for an early evening stroll in NYC’s upper east side, a 20 year-old-woman was shot dead.

The fatal shooting happened on East 95th St and Lexington Ave in Manhattan when a woman, who was pushing a 3-month baby in a stroller around 8:30 p.m. ET, was shot by an “unknown” suspect “at a very close range,” according to Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell.

The commissioner told the press that the suspect, described as a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants, ran away eastbound on 95th after shooting the woman once in the head.

“We’re going to find this person that’s guilty of this horrific crime,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in the press conference. “We’re going to find him and bring him to justice … to make sure that innocent person receives that justice.”

The baby was reportedly unharmed during the shooting, and no arrests have been made.

Just a little over a week ago, the NY Post and several other media sources reported that NYC is one of six major cities nationwide that is already on track to surpass last year’s staggering rates of violent crime, data shows.

Reports of homicide, rape, assault, and robbery are on pace to break 2021 levels halfway through the year – with a 25.8% surge in violent crime in the Big Apple atop the list, according to a review of NYPD statistics, the Post reported.

A total of 189 murders have been tallied in New York City as of Sunday, the latest date of available data. That’s down more than 13% from 218 on the same date a year ago, but rapes, robberies, and felony assaults are all up: 15.4%. 39.7% and 19.6%, respectively.
