The daughter of civil rights icon Malcolm X was found dead at her home in Brooklyn Monday, according to multiple reports.
The news comes days after two men were exonerated in the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X.
According to WNBC, 56-year-old Malikah Shabazz was “found unconscious and unresponsive inside her home on East 28th Street in Midwood just before 4:30 p.m.” Her daughter reportedly made the discovery.
As of now, the death of Shabazz is not being labeled suspicious. A medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
“I’m deeply saddened by the death of Malikah Shabazz,” Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., said in a post on Twitter.
“My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak when Brother Malcolm was assassinated.”
Malikah Shabazz and her twin sister Malaak are the youngest of six daughters of Malcolm X.
