It’s been 78 days since Joe Biden has held a press conference, and while most of the United States tuned in for an update on the disastrous situation Biden’s got us in, Joe Manchin decided to crash the party with his own speech by taking to the Senate floor to defend the filibuster.
Manchin has been under immense attack by the Left, simply because he doesn’t support an agenda that will add further inflationary fuel to the fire the Biden administration has already created. The filibuster is now the Democrat’s last attempt to rewrite the rules once again in order to create a one-party rule for America that could take decades to restore if Build Back Better and the Voting Rights Act are passed.
“My Democratic colleagues in Washington are determined to dramatically reshape our society in a way that leaves our country even more vulnerable to the threats we face. I cannot take that risk with a staggering debt of more than $29 trillion and inflation taxes that are real and harmful to every hard-working American at the gasoline pumps, grocery stores, and utility bills with no end in sight,” Manchin released in a December statement. “The American people deserve transparency on the true cost of the Build Back Better Act. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office determined the cost is upwards of $4.5 trillion which is more than double what the bill’s ardent supporters have claimed. They continue to camouflage the real cost of the intent behind this bill.”
Manchin seems to be one of the only Democrats who are opposing their Party’s request to eliminate the filibuster. Kyrsten Sinema also took to the Senate floor in recent weeks to oppose the filibuster with an emotional plea to “protect our democracy”.
