ELON MUSK DEFENDS 2A: ‘Right to Bear Arms Safeguards Against Tyranny’

Published on

I’ve said it a million times, and I will continue to scream it from the rooftops, our founding fathers gave us the right to bear arms to overthrow a tyrant government. Not to shoot deer, but to take out tyranny.

As an American citizen, I don’t see how it’s possible to remain the freest country on the face of the planet without the ability to defend yourself. Apparently, Elon Musk agrees.

Quite often, foreigners who weigh in on America’s gun laws tend to get it horribly wrong. Elon Musk, however, is one of the few who gets it.

Musk spoke to CNBC about gun rights and the recent shootings in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York —he’s a huge supporter of the 2nd Amendment, and I’m not surprised by this at all. He recently just threw down $45 billion on protecting our freedom of speech with his commitment to purchase Twitter. Regardless of whether you think the move is a bad business play, he did it out of principle, which just goes to show how much he cares about protecting our rights here in America.

“I strongly believe that the right to bear arms is an important safeguard against potential tyranny of government. Historically, maintaining their power over the people is why those in power did not allow public ownership of guns,” Musk told CNBC.

“Regarding recent events, the shooters are obviously doing this to generate the most amount of attention possible. Why is the media doing exactly what the mass murderers want?” Musk asked.

He did also take the opportunity to weigh on background checks for gun purchases which is the one debate both political parties in America tend to agree on. Musk says he supports “tight background checks” for all gun sales and, “limiting sales of assault weapons to people in special circumstances, like gun range owners, or people who live in a ‘high-risk location, like gang warfare,’” CNBC reports.

He also posted on Twitter:

“Assault rifles should at minimum require a special permit, where the recipient is extremely well vetted imo.”

As a 2A advocate myself who will never budge a single inch on giving up our guns regardless of weapon type, I agree with Musk that we do need to make sure we do our best to ensure assault weapons never get in the hands of the wrong people. Just straight up banning them can’t be the answer. We need those guns, god forbid one day we find ourselves in a situation where we need to overthrow a TYRANNICAL government. After all, that is exactly why 2A exists.
