Speaker Kevin McCarthy posted to Twitter on Sunday that House Republicans will hold Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas accountable for creating the “most dangerous border crisis in American history”.
“Biden is making his first border visit of his life—a photo op—while pushing for amnesty for millions of immigrants who have crossed into the US illegally,” McCarthy said. “House Republicans will hold him and Mayorkas accountable for creating the most dangerous border crisis in American history.
McCarthy called on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in November, after the House won its midterm election, to resign over the Biden administration’s border policy, promising to launch investigations this year that could result in impeachment.
“We will use the power of the purse and the power of subpoena. Let me be clear: Those responsible for this disaster will be held accountable,” McCarthy said at a news conference in El Paso. “If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action and every failure to determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiries.”
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, (R-TX) wrote to Mayorkas in August warning him that impeachment could be on the books if illegal crossings don’t reduce. Sen. Lindsey Graham, (R-SC), also signed the letter.
Biden visited the Southern Border for the first time in his nearly 50-year political career on Sunday but achieved nothing of importance after appearing for a photo op. Fox News provided before and after pictures of El Paso, Texas proving that just one day prior to Biden showing up, the border was littered with homeless immigrants who were forced out in time for the photo op of Biden visiting the border.
Lauren Boebert called the visit “a complete fraud”.
Whether McCarthy will impeach Joe Biden or Alejandro Mayorkas over the raging border crisis is still yet to be seen, but Republicans are expecting that the Speaker do something immediately as he promised swift action if he were elected Speaker Of The House. Now it’s time for McCarthy to keep to his promises.
