Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and her Republican Trump-endorsed challenger Kelly Tshibaka have both advanced to November’s general election, according to the Associated Press.
The two candidates are among 18 challengers in the primary, with the top four advancing to the general election.
Murkowski, who has been in the Senate for 20 years and voted to convict former President Donald Trump during his impeachment trial, faces fierce opposition from some Republicans, including Tshibaka, who finished 3 points behind Murkowski indicating that she is to be taken very seriously in the November general election.
Of the seven Republican senators who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for his role in the Capitol riot, only Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski is running in 2022.
Alaska eliminated party primaries following a 2020 referendum and implemented a ranked-choice system where the top four vote-getters in a non-partisan primary will advance to the general election.
According to the polls, Lisa Murkowski, incumbent, came in first place with 66,288 votes (43.7%) and Kelly Tshibaka followed closely behind with 61,225 votes (40.4%). Both advance to the General election where they will face each other again in Novebmer for the final showdown.
