Trump To Hold Florida Rally For Marco Rubio, But No Invite For DeSantis Yet

Published on

Former President Donald Trump will be holding a rally in his home state of Florida for Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), but heavyweight Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has not been invited as of the time of this report.

According to Fox News, Trump announced the Nov. 6 rally on Wednesday, and the announcement made no mention of DeSantis. Aides to Trump reportedly said the governor would not be there, Politico reported Thursday. DeSantis is widely seen as Trump’s most credible presidential challenger in a 2024 Republican primary should the pair both decide to run.

Fox News called the lack of an invite a “Snub”, yet there is no confirmation as to whether the former President intentionally blew off DeSantis or if the move was a calculated strategy agreed upon by the two of them to have DeSantis sit this rally out.

The incident comes just days after DeSantis refused to answer whether he plans to run for president in 2024 during a recent debate between the Florida governor and opposing Democrat candidate Charlie Crist who pressed DeSantis on the issue during the election debate Monday night.

Trump has consistently out-performed DeSantis in polls of Republican voters ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election, but the governor remains Trump’s biggest threat should he decide to run.

A presidential straw poll at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit found that 78.7% of attendees favored Trump to be the Republican nominee in 2024. Another straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference in August found that Trump had 69% support from attendees to run in 2024. DeSantis came in with just 24% support.

With that said, if Trump were to not run in 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis would be the clear favorite in what will most likely be a very crowded Republican race for the oval office.

Neither Trump nor DeSantis has declared intentions to run for president in 2024 as of October 27, 2022.
