Texas School Shooting Death Toll Rises: 19 Children, 2 Teachers Now Confirmed Dead

Published on

The death toll continues to rise in Uvalde, Texas where an 18-year-old high school student shot and killed 19 children and 2 teachers at Robb Elementary School, Governor Greg Abbott sad.

We do not know the identities of the children, but so far we have learned the identity of 1 of the teachers, Eva Mireles, who has died.

Abbott identified the suspect as Salvador Ramos, a Uvalde resident, who is also dead and acted alone, authorities said. He had a handgun and possibly a rifle when he opened fire at Robb Elementary School, he said. Two police officers were shot and wounded but were expected to survive, Abbott said.

“Texans across the state are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime and for the community of Uvalde. Cecilia and I mourn this horrific loss and we urge all Texans to come together to show our unwavering support to all who are suffering,” he said in a statement.

The incident began when the suspect, identified by Abbott and law enforcement sources as Salvador Ramos, shot and killed his grandmother.

Texas public safety officials said Ramos then left his home in a truck, which he crashed in a ditch outside Robb Elementary School. He got out with an AR-15 style rifle and numerous magazines, law enforcement sources told ABC News. He was also wearing body armor.

As he approached the school, a Uvalde ISD school resource officer engaged the suspect, but Ramos shot him, law enforcement sources said.

The shooting took place as soon as the suspect entered the school and all of the victims at the school died “in the same location inside the school,” authorities told ABC News.

Inside the school, the suspect traded fire with Uvalde ISD officers and Border Patrol Tactical Unit agents, sources told ABC News.

Sources have warned the media to expect more deaths.
